M’FEZISnake Awareness

There are many industries out there that there is frequent contact with snakes. However, most of the employees are not enthusiast about these snakes. Both the human and the snake are in danger in these situations, with either one increasingly getting hurt.
The snake usually end up with the short end of the stick, pun not intended, which result in the attempted and usually successful killing of the snake. However, in attempting to kill the snake the person is inadvertently putting their lives in danger dependent on the snake species. Many people believe that they have killed many snakes in the past and they will not get bitten. The problem with that mind-set is that it could lead to the first bite.
This is where two questions should be asked:
1.    Are you as the company or individual equipped with the knowledge to safely get the bite victim to an emergency facility for any treatment that might be required?
2.    The medical facility is it equipped with the correct equipment and knowledge to treat such an emergency?
The unfortunate answers many people have to the two above questions are NO or VERY LIMITED!

M’fezi snake awareness was formed to assist in the above situation. We as snake enthusiast and specialist understand and study snakes and their behaviours. We work with a wide variety of species both venomous and non-venomous on a daily basis. Through years of learning and gaining experience we felt we were more than able to develop and conduct snake awareness and handling courses.

We offer the following services:
  • A custom Snake awareness and handling course as per the company’s requirements and location
  • A short lecture about snakes and their characteristics

The Snake Awareness and Handling Course:

Each province and area carries many different snake species and sub species. We develop a course that will sought your situation and talk about the specific snakes in your region.

The first part of this course is theory based to help identify which snakes are dangerous, what type of venoms these snakes possess and what emergency protocols should be followed. Other aspects covered in the course include why you would come into contact and what to do to avoid contact. This is usually about six hours long including tea and lunch breaks. A short written exam will be done at the end of the session.

The second part is the handling section. This is where the participants will have the opportunity to come into “contact” with the snakes under the strict guidance and supervision of the professional snake handler. There will be no physical contact with the snakes at all, and the participants will be taught how to safely remove the snake from the area with specialised equipment to keep them away from the snake. Depending on numbers the handling section should not take more than an hour and a half. The snakes used in the handling section would be sourced from your specific area with all relevant permits in place.

The Lecture:

This is a short presentation intended to give a brief coverage about snakes and their characteristics. It covers the different species found in the area with a focus on the venomous. It is designed to give an insight and there will be some snakes on display to help describe attributes of such snakes attributes. Lectures are usually about an hour and a half duration.
